Practical Details

In terms of shape, size and positioning of the pond, we will be guided by you. Ponds can be any shape or size due to the flexibility of the liner material, so can fit around existing garden features.

If starting from scratch, however, it’s a good idea to construct a pond with a relatively rounded outline, which maximises surface area.

In general, it’s best not to build a pond under trees, because of leaf fall in the autumn and winter.  However there are proprietary netting products which can help with this if siting under a tree is the only option.

We will make the pond as outlined in the `Construction’ section of the website, secure the liner, and put down a layer of RHS horticultural gravel on the submerged upper levels of the pond, and plant the pond in consultation with you. We will also remove all spoil material from the garden.  We will do this with as little disturbance to the remainder of the garden as possible.

We prefer not to build ponds in gardens where children of five and under are likely to be playing unsupervised.

The cost of a pond varies depending on the surface area of the total excavation, assuming standard four level construction.
